Breast enlargement surgery or boob job is a popular cosmetic procedure that is performed in women who wish to have a larger breast size or altered breast shape. Most women, after pregnancy, rapid weight loss, or breastfeeding opt for breast enhancement surgery to restore their lost breast volume, symmetry, shape, or size and give a boost to their self-body image. This surgery involves the surgical placement of breast implants under the chest muscles or breast tissue or sometimes, the autologous fat transfer to breasts to achieve the desired enlarged breast shape.

People who are physically fit, emotionally stable, non-smoker, have realistic expectations of the surgery, and fully developed breasts are suitable candidates for breast enhancement surgery.

Types of breast enlargement surgery performed at Aestiva Clinic, best plastic surgery clinic in Delhi:

Using implants: In this type of surgery, the surgeon makes an incision, uplifts the breast tissues to create a pocket inside, and finally places the implant in the pocket. The breast implant may also be placed behind the breast (i.e. specifically the pectoral muscle). Usually, breast implants have a life of around 10-15 years.

Fat transfer technique: During this type of surgery, the fat is removed by liposuction technique from any fatty body part like the abdomen and injected into the small breasts to make them fuller. It is preferred by only those who want a slight increase in breast size and natural-looking results.

What to expect in breast enlargement surgery?

Initial consultation: The very first step of any candidate who considers having breast enlargement surgery must discuss their expectations with the breast augmentation surgeon.

During the first visit to the surgeon:

  • The patient’s medical history is reviewed
  • The breasts are examined and measured.
  • The ideal implant type, size, and position of placement is recommended.
  • A detailed discussion of expectations from surgery, risks, complications, and benefits is done.

Pre-operative Appointment: Following the consultation, a pre-surgery assessment is done. This includes blood tests, blood pressure tests, urine tests, MRSA swabs, ECG, and ultrasound/mammogram. Moreover, a specific list of instructions to be followed a few days or weeks before the surgery is given by the surgeon. In general, smoking and alcohol consumption must be strictly avoided, the candidate must wear comfortable clothing, home recovery preparations may be done, and limited food intake must be there the night before the surgery. Once admitted, pre-surgery photos of breasts are taken and markings are made on the chest for surgery. The nurses prepare the patient for surgery by checking their vitals.

The procedure (for breast implants):

  1. General anesthesia is given to the patient before the surgery.
  2. The surgeon makes an incision of about 3-5mm in the inframammary fold, armpit, or around the nipple. The site of the incision depends upon the type of implant, body contours, and the surgeon’s preference
  3. Next, a pocket is created within the breast either under breasts (i.e. behind the chest wall muscle) or over breasts (i.e. between the breast tissue and breast muscles) to insert the breast implant using a hand. The pocket can also be made with the help of an implant sizer for a less traumatic insertion of a silicone gel implant. Usually, silicone breast implants are used containing silicone gel as it appears more natural. This type of implant is beneficial because if there is any leak in the implant, the gel may remain within the shell of an implant or in the pocket but the implant would not collapse.
  4. Then, the incisions are sutured with dissolvable stitches and covered by surgical tape.
  5. A surgical support bra is placed on the chest of the patient and is worn during the recovery period.
  6. Lastly, the patients are taken to the recovery room and when the surgeon and support staff find everything normal for patients, they are sent home.

The cost of breast enlargement surgery varies from patient to patient. The cost of breast enlargement surgery in Delhi at Aestiva Clinic depends on several factors like the type of implant and size of implant used, patient age, amount of fat injected, surgeon experience, and many more.

Aftercare that patient must follow after surgery:

  • The candidate must wear the support garment for at least 6 weeks.
  • The person must keep the surgical site away from water for at least a week.
  • Sleeping must be on an elevated bed on the back for at least 6 weeks.
  • The individual can resume her work after 1-2 weeks.
  • Exercise, strenuous activities, or any contact sports that put pressure on the chest must be avoided for 4-6 weeks.
